BESTOFFEST 6. KAN (POL) 03.09. FRIDAY 20:00, SILENT CINEMA |
The Amateur and Independent Film Festival is a festival that never ceases to be. The finals held in April, a five-day long feast for the eyes, ears, and the celluloid-hungry brains, are only the tip of the iceberg. Round the year, KAN is traveling around Poland, Europe, and other far away lands with Special Screenings, visiting fellow festivals with a selection of the best films that have appeared at KAN so far. And we always appreciate the opportunity to work with like-minded film lovers. At the time I'm writing this, the head of our International Department is on his way to an international video festival in deep Siberia, which takes the name after a city, Kansk, located on the river Kan, and let me tell you, the coincidence is a thrill. But to the heart of the matter – that is, the finals. This year, we are happy to say, BUSHO was one of our guests, and it is with pleasure that we return the visit.

SZOLNOKI KÉPZÕMÛVÉSZETI FILMSZEMLE (HUN)
’Szemben az idõvel’ –’Opposing Time’
‘Opposing time’ is Éva Demeter’s first documentary movie made in 2008 at the International Film Festival of Fine Arts in Szolnok, Hungary. This festival is two-yearly organized in the city since 1969. In 2008 the reporter was curious about the future of this festival and made her 25-minute documentary about it, which was also her thesis at the university.
Hitchcock once said ”A movie is good when it worth the price of a dinner, a ticket to the cinema and a babysitter”. We talk about valuable film festival when different artists from all over the world build international relationships with coming to the festival, enjoy the substantial programs and return to the scene of the festival from time to time. The question can arise: how to achieve this, is it worthwhile to fight for such occasions in the 21st century with decreasing financial support? Do such film festivals have a reason for existence when various electronic devices gather ground, when they can manipulate both sound and picture? We are looking for answer to such questions, we… filmmakers, spectators, audience etc. in 2008, in a city called Szolnok |
