PREVIOUS REACTIONS
PATROVITS TAMÁS, ASIFA.HU, PARTIUM WORKSHOP LEADER
In relation to this competition there were two workshops held, one at the University of Cinematics in co-operation with Moholy-Nagy Art University, and the other was an animation workshop in Oradea, Romania. This was a great one week we spent there with a pleasant atmosphere. I’ve been to many workshops and this was definitely one of the best.
SZIRTES JÁNOS, MOME TEACHER, WORKSHOP TUTOR
Only the fact that these two workshops are working together is a great thing. They teach motion picture, film, media-art, media design related subjects in both so it is a great thing. But the workshops and their help means a lot more than we’d get some cameras or whatever sum of money. Obviously we provided as much assistance as possible. The spirit, the thought of working and creating together is a great achievement and a value to keep.
DEÁK KRISTÓF – AUTHOR, CONQUEST 2011
I won 2nd prize and $600 with The Conquest 2011 and I’m very happy for it. I didn’t expect it. I just spoke with jury members and they gave me the reasons of giving the prize to me. I have to admit that the concept was already made when we found this competition and realized that our concept – with a little touch ups - just fits into the competition’s topic. According to the feedbacks I’m not quite sure whether everyone understood what we were trying to express in the film so for those: we examined the status of being Hungarian with a little bit of irony and grotesque effect.
ÁGÓI KRISZTINA – AUTHOR, ONCE UPON A TIME
My name is Kriszti Ágói and this one-minute animation ‘Once upon a time’ is an animated documentary film, if I can call a one-minute long a film but I think I can. We shot it with children in a kindergarten by animating their drawings around them thus placing them into their imaginary world. The topic was obviously Europe and I just asked them about it, that’s how this short was born. I expected them not knowing much of it and we’d build an imaginary world.
M. TÓTH GÉZA – JURY MEMBER, FILM DIRECTOR
Not all movies come through our mind easily so we have not only to watch but look into them too. However, while one takes his job seriously it is also important not to take himself too seriously. Just keep calm in the background then dispute reasonably when making our decision. When the Hungarian film industry is in such a big crisis it is nice to see that a quiet and barely notable tender attracts sixty valuable films and a not so small hall getting filled with people here in Vörösmarty cinema.
XANTUS JÁNOS, SZFE, WORKSHOP LEADER
First we met with the applicants of the workshop at the University of Cinematics for an introduction where they could describe their project in 6 minutes. Followed by another 4-5 meetings considering their needs. The projects were separated by then. The contact was kept via e-mail, the applicants uploaded their raw version of the project to youtube, we (Janos Szirtes, Juli Széphelyi and me) had a look and basically discussed them via e-mail. It was very exciting and felt like I made all the movies. Also feels good because you seem to be productive. All one-minute short are based on different things. Some made by inspiration, some requires endurance, some only needs a good idea, sometimes even a good idea can bleed to death during the workout, sometimes a shallow thought can develop into a meaningful and strong storyline, so I cannot determine anything in general. All cases differ.
BOLLÓK CSABA, JURY MEMBER, FILM DIRECTOR
The one-minute shorts are like message in a bottle. We send them somewhere and the first three were making us happy when reading them. But everyone who put a message in a bottle have done so with a very interesting message.
GÁBELI TAMÁS, JURY MEMBER, FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
The shorts were great! I think that’s it.
