DANZIG IN THE STREET

We have been working together since 2007, therfore the Polish Euroshorts festival is our oldest partner, where we had the last stop of our tour for this year at the end of November. Three Hungarian movies, Katapult, the later awarded The Orange Passport and Mother’s Day from last year’s BuSho edition participated in the competition; and also at the BuSho panorama screening we presented Mrs. Rozgonyi, Entropia, The Tenants, Put of Character and The Man from the Fire avertised the Hungarian short film in the North. This time Olivér Bognár represented BuSho at the festival as a member of the International Jury, who sent us his summary.

I arrived to Gdansk at the middle of the one week festival, where we immediately started with a carefully pre-selected BuSho screening with Hungarian short movies from the near past. The screening was held at a nice, but tiny place, at a cellar-looking movie pub, which appeared to be the entertainment center of the festival. After the screening we had some talk, then we attended the competition screening sections of the 4th day, after the screenings we also had time to meet some creators, who arrived from interesting, differrent countries.

The rest of the week passed in a good mood by meeting new people, sightseeing and watching short movies. Though it was my first time attend Euroshorts, trusting the words of veteran participants and other jury members this years selection was above average, for example we had to pick 1 movie from 15 nominees for the award of the best fiction movie. Just to clarify: not 15 fiction movies attended the competition, but there were 15 of them which had the chance to win the prize. Of course, we were able to make an agreemenet after a long discussion, in the end we simply decided on rewarding 5 of these movies.

The organizers of the festival were really nice and as most of the guests were accommodated at the same place, I bumped into familiar faces all the day, even at different points of the city. I had the opportunity to meet lots of young creators from Turkey through Iraq to Australia, but also plenty of Polish creators attended the festival whose hospitality revealed itself for example when I was running for my Sunday morning flight like Forrest Gump, one of them was with me through the whole time on Messenger, I was calmed and I had to report where am I, it felt nice.

I recommend visiting the city of Gdanks and the Euroshorts festival as well for anyone who likes gingerbread houses and good movies, the Museum of the Second World War is shocking and impressive at the same time, the Sunset of the Baltic Sea is beautiful even when the Sun is behind your back.
