International Amateur Film Festival 2006. The Faludi Ferenc Academy is happy to announce its 11th international film competition and festival. The competitors are expected to treat the above topic in the form of a short feature film, experimental film, or documentary. We are expecting works with professional demands and completion, which are, at the same time, suitable for providing a orum for the dialogue between different opinions.
In this year, as always, the announcement of the Faludi Film Festival couldn’t start without a quotation from the Bible: "Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." "Lord, if it's you," Peter re-plied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.” (Mt, 14,22-32) Similarly to other texts this one can be interpreted several ways as well. It can be read and forgot-ten immediately. You can ignore it, or confidently “get over it”. It can be buried as deep as possible. But you can deal with it as well, cater for it- observe it like a closed object which came across our way and whose clue, sense and task we are searching for on the bus, in the school, alone, in company, in the workplace, at home or before the TV. Because we have to walk on the water not only once or twice: we are walking towards tasks which seem to be insolvable, or we are standing motionless on the surface of a life situation for years and dec-ades. We are carrying objects, situations and people in our arms and in our heart when we start to sink. We brashly step on the water and make a move than we get into a flap. One can argue this, but while you are walking on the water getting scared or getting hot isn’t advised. We can walk on water: on the filmy surface of our scares, shyness, abilities and conceits – we should start to walk above stifling. Every fin-ished film can be a step towards this direction.
