Competition Programme of the 14th BuSho

After the deadline, when we again received almost thousand entries, our re-updated pre-jury board have finished their selection process – involving a brand new member from last year’s student jury – as a result 64 shorts are in competition for the 3 main prizes and 8 category prizes at the 14th BuSho Festival. The screening time is 15 hours all together - as usual, 16 animation, 5 experimental and 43 fiction films, with 1 Hungarian short in each screening block.

The Law of Large Numbers has once again proved itself to be true – the most contenders come from countries that have finished on top of the entry-statistics, bearing in mind that this may not mean anything. There are exceptions that prove the rule – in case of countries submitting a small number of shorts: this gems come from Australia, Iran, Iceland or Uruguay. Let us know listen to what the members experienced – as always, ladies first:

Annaida Orosz: “A large quantity of animators picked society related topics for their shorts, of course using animation’s transitive wording to the maximum. But we won’t lack of the expected comedy, surreal and lyric themes either.”

Boróka Vajda: “There were so many outstanding shorts, that could make even three film festivals program. Which is unbelievable. So I tried to pick only the nearly genius ones.”

Zsófia Ördög: „It was really interesting to get such an extensive overview of short film genre from all around the globe. The returning structures give us a thorough insight of our present times, both on society and personal level. Basically my favourite ones were which had courage, genuinity and beautiful film-language. my selection concept was to pick shorts that can make effect on wider public.

Zoltán Vozó Végh: “Quality shorts were bombarding the pre-jury’s armada. Though quality can be pointless if a short gets lost among dozens of similar themes. Those shorts that were unique, spectacular and moreover reflects a positive attitude got them high up on my pick list.”

László Rimóczi: „I always wanted to be a film snob, who is only interested in boring, low quality films, whose eyes get shining only when there is no shine on the screen. Then during the selection I realised what repeats in films I like to dislike: the Spanish overtalking, the Italian feasts, the Russian crying happiness, the English coolness, the tough-as-f**k Romanian looks, the dramatic German overinterpretation, the French speed, and the Icelandic extreme long shots. Then these make BuSho Festival to be a feeling, community and technical meeting point.”

Unfortunately not everyone could make it to the competition, and we have fund several creations in full length at some video-share-portal, therefore – as usual – Panorama screenings will be held, and we will screen each Hungarian work submitted, therefore we would like to call the attention of the creators who are featured at any of the lists to send the screening copy no later than *1st July* to us with burnt-in English subtitles and the following parameters, which we will send in a dedicated letter to everyone! Should you have any technical or other questions, do not hesitate to send them to busho@busho.hu, or to webmaster@busho.hu! If you would like to participate at the festival, please submit your accreditation at the webpage or write to entry@busho.hu for further information.

UPLOAD your screening copy:

We kindly ask each creator to check the data and if there are omissions or if you would like to change something, please do it ASAP, for we will use your given data for the compilation of the catalogue – with special regard to the length of the film, the e-mail address of the director and the index picture.
