17TH BUSHO ENTRY OPENING SOONISH

Basically, everything is fine, but it should be noted on the side that we hope it can only come better than 2020, after all sorts of festivals were really postponed and slipped back and forth this year, and then what was held didn’t have an absolute spectator peak. And towards the end of the year, the trend isn't exactly improving, the world seems to be closing again soon, but optimistic forecasts suggest that wrinkles will smooth out next summer and dances may begin, so we're preparing that way. Or so that although for us the festival and the online term are still incompatible, we are building a virtual B track on which...

THERE IS SOME LIFE

Looks like we’ve managed to answer the statement!? made in the previous news, because yes, indeed, there is life after BuSho. For the sake of a single sentence, we would return to the bad memory decision on the border closing 1st of September, because as it turned out 3 days later, on the 4th the coercive measure was partially lifted, ie cultural events were included into the exceptions. days of this specialty lived only, when the jury members, performers and creators of the BuSho festival would have arrived, gameover, let’s not really insist. Life goes on, foreign creators also receiving their prizes slowly, and we too are slowly moving beyond our reporting obligations. Then the usual promotional campaign of the Hungarian bestof collection around the world begins...

16. BUSHO HUNGARIAN COMPETITORS 2020

16th Annual Budapest Short Film Festival starts 1st of September, and the hungarian films in the competition programme had again caused a bit of a headache to the pre-jury, as there were so many great hungarian shorts again, that it is really difficult to decide which ones make the cut. Those who doubt us say this is the advance of the home court, but to them we can only recommend the last sentence of the famous folk tale: Who does not beleive it, should go after it themselves! We will try to bring the appetite not only for the doubters, but for our supporters as well.

Let’s start with the animated programme, as we have already mentioned their Polish and Czech counterparts in the international recommendations, hungarian animations also has the bar set high, as we have received numerous...

16. BUSHO INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FILMS

The 16th BuSho International Short Film Festival kicks off on September 1, with previous Sundance, Cannes and BAFTA awards nominees in the program, and we will publish a short film trailer every night on our Facebook event on the last 2 weeks. We’ll deal with these works in a little more detail in our announcer article below, but we’ll start by fundamentally transforming the short film “market,” what we’d rather call a system.
Whereas in the past different nations produced short films almost exclusively within their own borders, today it has become fully international, which means co-production has appeared within...

''HANDS UP!'' REBELLION IN V4 CINEMA

This film project aims to show the audience how the cinema shaped and reflected the attitudes of social resistance in Visegrad countries. Hands up! is the title of Jerzy Skolimowski's film from 1967, in which the director accounts for the generation of thirty-year-olds growing up in the Stalinism era. The new-wave form, uncompromising content and its origin (for 14 years the film was banned by censorship) make Skolimowski's film a guide that we want to follow when choosing the repertoire. During the project production twenty screenings will be divided into four thematic blocks...

THE DETAILED PROGRAM IS COMING SOON

With the receipt of screening copies, the program for this year’s 16th BuSho International Short Film Festival is now final. Fortunately, all the selected works arrived in the competition program, and even in the panorama screenings, it was rare that something did not arrive or someone recalled his film. So the compilation of the detailed block-by-block program will start soon, which will be published immediately should anyone possibly adjust their participation in the festival accordingly. In the meantime, we would like to draw the attention of the artists who have entered the competition to the fact...

16. BUSHO SCREENING PROGRAM 2020

After lengthy preparation and deliberation, the competition and panorama program for this year’s 16th BuSho Festival has finally been born. Based on the votes of the renewed pre-jury, 66 short films from 23 countries were finally entered into the competition, of which 5 were experimental, 15 were animated and 46 were fictional works. Once again, the Hungarian artists caused a serious headache for the pre-jury, because we got so many excellent works from the home field, that it was really difficult to decide in the confusion of abundance. There were some who did an excellent job but crossed the 30 minute entry threshold, others also hit the competition level even with their 2 films, but true to our habits we chose only one for the competition, again there are big returnees and debut young artists in the field. Of course, the international production also promises a very colorful program, according...

It is not too easy by the coronavirus as a pandemic, but since the “stay home” movement started 2 weeks before our registration deadline, this became the best time for this year’s pre-jury. In addition, we have just updated this year's pre-selection team, as several selectors have debuted here, which is why we will dedicate a separate chapter to them soon. HUNGARIAN FOLK TALES

I think in recent decades there are not many Hungarians who have not seen these tales and so I have long wanted to share them with my foreign friends, now I have finally found it in English, have fun with them!

„The Hungarian Folk Tales stem from original folktale collections, every episode has its special authentic ornamentation. The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the...

BuSho has celebrated it’s 15th anniversary in 2019, so we have organized a few Bestof screenings across the country already last year with the selection of which included exclusively hungarian films. Now the sequel is arriving with the second episode, into which we have selected international short films. We have to stress, that it is impossible to include all of the essence of the 15 years, so we will be selecting different short films for different screenings. This time we have selected for the programme of the 30th Mediawave a quite short, but intense package. Under the motto „15 years – 15 shorts” which include fiction and animation...

BLOODY BUSHO VALENTINE – CANCELED!!!

The National Blood Supply Service together with the Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party organizes a traditional blood-sucking blood donation, this time in the name of Love on Valentines Day, in Bálint House. As we wish for spring to come closer so we can paint outside again, we are organizing a Bushok ind of spring awakening with the best of selection of the 15 years of Busho Festival.

On the occasion of BuSho International Shortfilm Festival's 15th anniversary, we came up with the idea of astonishing high school students with shorts that are precious for us, and may as well be to them over time. So we set up a best-of screening material that can be devided into 2 parts. The first one includes only no-dialogue films, and the second contains just 3 opuses. This can be watched and discussed separately or all together, as it is only 100 minutes long. The selection has been upgraded with international...
